Fruit and Vegetables in a Raw Diet

Fruit and Vegetables in a Raw Diet

Not all dogs like, or can tolerate fruit and vegetables in their diet. Some dogs get yeast infections which can be made worse by fruit and vegetables, especially those high in natural sugars. It is best to feed green leafy vegetables and low sugar fruit and vegetables.

The best way to prepare fruit and vegetables is to either blend them, partially cook, or lightly steam them. This preparation makes them more digestible and prevents loss of vitamins and nutrients.

The percentage of fruit and vegetables that can be added ON TOP of their raw feeding allowance is 10 - 15% as this will not add weight to your dog but may make them feel fuller. So veg is great for dogs who need to lose weight and have had their daily raw allowance cut.

The easy way to add Fruit and Veg is with SmartBarf which is a 100% natural source of minerals, vitamins and nutrients from over 50 different seeds, nuts, fruits, berries, vegetables, pulses and herbs. All the ingredients are carefully selected for maximum nutritional benefit, to create a healthy balanced diet for your dog and your puppy.SmartBarf™ is already mixed and packaged, and has a long shelf life, all for your convenience and to save you time and money. Just add water and serve with meat.
